Presentation

At the crossroads of circus, musique concrète, and silent theatre, 3D is a performance that attempts to make full use of an arc that is the size of a person. An object as extension of the body, a prosthetic limb to execute an array of movements in three directions, within a three dimensional space. The scenery is minimalistic, the lighting is pure, the stage is erected in a tri-facing manner to better engage the audience.

The acrobatic elements made possible by this unique circus structure explore different volumes and create new perspectives regarding matter, space, and the other. The body mixes with the space, is enveloped by it or travels across it; meanwhile, the sound also mingles with the space, resonant and vibrant, fluid and light. Situations are constructed through sonic movement: snapping it, grooving it, shaking, dancing. There is a flexibility, a musicality, a disconnection from the body that creates an entirely original form of instrument by merging the artist and the arc of the music.

The initials H.M.G. are a reference to a person who had a vision for a new form of circus who, with the help of others, created the Lido circus school in Toulouse in the 1980s. The H.M.G. company identifies with the polymorphic nature of contemporary circus.

Four artists are working together to attain a compelling sense of complicity in 3D: the circus artist and composer Jonathan Guichard, who earned his stripes alongside the choreographer Denis Plassard of the Romanès circus, the MPTA and 111 companies, and Yoann Bourgeois; the sound designer and technician Cyril Malivert; the musician Mikaël Le Guillou, who is at ease in all genres (vocals, world music, rock, or free improvisation); and Étienne Manceau, who provides artistic oversight and who was trained at the Lido and has participated in a diverse selection of performances and projects.
