Presentation

5 characters, 5 bodies, 5 personalities, 5 portraits, 5 visions.
They shape their daily existence.
They pull, they crowd.
They climb, they fly.
They fall. And they get up again.
They doubt. They persist.
Searching, seeking, digging, all without a net.
They move forward, always. Their art like their religious vocation.
Between failure and success. Pleasure and suffering.
Beings in eternal balance, strong and fragile.
Funny and sad.
They are themselves.
They are hope.
They are life itself.

"My work is an inquiry into the art of movement. Since my first performance, I have sought to develop a choreographic language. This language is being invented through connections between individuals, daily life. It is based on a vocabulary that blends dance and the foundations of the circus. I summon all of the emotions, virtuosity, contortion, the connection between performers, in a metaphorical creation in which every detail counts and meaning can be found in the smallest movements. This creation is forged in a vibrant visual universe that contributes to the theatrical narrative, all with an important role played by the lighting. Each one of my projects is a step in my greater journey to create this language of movement." Raphaëlle Boitel

"A highly sensitive reflection upon balance and imbalance, collapse and perseverance." La Terrasse

"With magical performances and top-notch lighting, music, and choreography, Raphaëlle Boitel and her characters, united in an indefatigable human adventure, regaled an audience that didn't hide its pleasure." Courrier de L’Ouest

After working with James Thierrée from 1998 to 2010 (La Symphonie du Hanneton, La Veillée des Abysses), Raphaëlle Boitel created the company L’Oublié(e) in 2012. The company has roots in the circus arts while also exploring the worlds of theatre, dance, visual arts, and cinema. As a stage director and choreographer, she creates a physical language that begins with the body and finds its home in the visual universe created by the three dimensions of the stage.

The writing, constructed with specifically composed music, mixes techniques from theatre, circus, dance, music, and cinema, all while examining reoccurring themes such as solidarity, perseverance, animality, human relations, commitment, moments of grace, letting go, and surpassing one's limits... These are the founding themes of her creations Consolations ou interdiction de passer par-dessus bord (2013), L’Oublié(e) (2014), 5es Hurlants (2015), La Bête Noire (2017), and La Chute des Anges (2018). Raphaëlle Boitel also works as a choreographer for the opera.
