The clown, in the end what is it? To attempt to understand, the question must be examined closely, one must be prepared to sit down in front of a table, a blackboard, and let oneself be guided by a most unusual collection of "lecturers"... Circonférence attempts to pin down the definition of a clown using references, hypotheses, and questions... With its hybrid format of performance/conference, this show creates a sublime tension between rational theory and unrestrained clowning, it intertwines the acquisition of knowledge with the moodiness of emotions. The performance brings together Jean-Michel Guy, a researcher, author, and director, and Cédric Paga, aka Ludor Citrik, an obscene, tender, unpredictable, menacing, poetic, realistic, and narcissistic clown who playfully embraces all the dimensions of his being. Beyond its educational and artistic objectives, Circonférence "seeks to connect audiences to something within the spirit of creation that can never be reduced to either some sort of unfathomable mystery or an understanding of a procedure."

Jean-Michel Guy is a research engineer at the French ministry of culture. The author of several books on the circus, co-founder of the La Scabreuse company, and a performance author and director, he has for several years presented a cycle of Circonférences dedicated to the diverse specialties of the circus.
Cédric Paga / Ludor Citrik The clown Ludor Citrik was born with the new millenium. He has been the source of four works: Je ne suis pas un numéro (2003), Deux sadicomédies: Mon pire cauchemar, un quatuor sanglant (2007), La nudité du ragoût, a duo performance with Isabelle Wery (2008), and the first part of an extended inquiry into the archaeology of becoming: Qui sommes-je ? (2012). As part of their current research on the senses, Cédric Paga, aka Ludor Citrik, and Camille Perrin (Le Pollu) are launching a new project, Ouïe. Ludor Citrik's diverse array of performance experiences have explored issues such as vitality and the power of jubilation, with one (non)guiding principle: the extension of the Luddite's domain.
