Presentation

Inspired by the traditional documentary format, Yohanne Lamoulère captures life in the streets of Marseille and follows the traces of change that have marked the city like claw marks. In 2005, she met Raquel Rache de Andrade, the co-director of the Biennale Internationale des Arts du Cirque and a neighbour. Over the years, the two developed an artistic connection with shared perspectives on the subject of the body. In her photographs, Yohanne Lamoulère attempts to frame all of the humanity found in a simple silhouette, that of a circus artist. For this collaboration, the two have entered into both familiar and unknown landscapes across the region. Visitors are invited along on this eye-opening voyage and to share this unconventional and dreamlike vision of the landscapes of daily life.

Yohanne Lamoulère has been photographing Marseille since 2009. Telling the city's story with her Rolleiflex, capturing its evolutions, the life of its streets. Her work is inspired by traditional documentary techniques and explores her personal fascinations: the city's youth, its diverse neighbourhoods, the relentless social determinism and the ability of some to escape it. She most often shoots in the city's northern neighbourhoods and there is a certain notion of utopia to be found in her images. She currently publishes her work with the Le Bec en l’Air.
She has participated in numerous exhibitions since 2006 includnig the Gyptis et Protis exhibition at Le Merlan, Marseille (2018), La Jeunesse en France, which was commissioned by the French Ministry of Culture (2017), Faux-bourgs for Street Photo Level and Alliance Française, Glasgow (2016), La Dispersion du Sable, which included a residency at Diaphane and a publication (2013), Bord à Canal as part of the ImageSingulières, Sète (2010), and Les Damnés de la Serre, Musée de la Mémoire Arménienne et de l’Immigration – Valence and the European Parliament, Brussells (2007).
