Presentation

Noir M1 is an aerial homage to Shakespeare’s Macbeth and to theater in general with all of its superstitions, mysteries, and beliefs. The performance highlights the professions that are practiced in the shadows of the stage, this “black box” that contains a distinct density of air, a space suspended, where creation and the imaginary unfold.

The tenth creation by Mélissa Von Vépy traces out everything that is meant to be invisible to the spectator, while “M1” is a classification of reaction and resistance to fire.

Can we wear green or suddenly say the words “chord” or “Friday” on stage?
Can we whistle, knowing it’s bad luck?
Can we murmur the cursed verses of Macbeth’s witches?
Do we no longer need to worry about superstition today?
Maybe six centuries protect us and today the theater isn’t very important.
So maybe we can cheerfully say, without fear of a curse: Macbeth, Macbeth, Macbeth?

At night, a stage after a performance with the facilities all lit up; a dismantling begins, a technician accidentally falls between the arches and a whole imaginary world unfolds before our eyes...

“A beautiful homage to the artists working in the shadows who are too rarely given the spotlight.”

“With her body as principal means of expression, the trapeze artist offers an infinite palette of emotions. An intense and poetic experience that provides a new look onto the world of theater.” Univers Migros, Genève

Mélissa Von Vépy, a Franco-Swiss artist, started circus at the age of 5 at the Ateliers des Arts du Cirque de Genève, then joined the CNAC (national circus arts center), from which she graduated in 1999 as a trapeze artist.
In 2000, she founded the Moglice-Von Verx Company with Chloé Moglia and they created three shows together: Un Certain endroit du ventre (2001), Temps Troubles (2003), and I Look Up, I Look Down… (2005). For the latter show, they obtained the SACD prize for circus arts.

Since 2007, Mélissa Von Vépy has been pursuing a unique from of artistic research in which she designs specific scenographic elements for each show that become an integral part of the dramaturgy. Her plays are always based on aerial expression linked to theatre and dance and the physical and inner dimensions of gravity.
