Presentation

Scala is the first production of the Scala Paris, which opened in September 2018 and is the creation of the acrobat and poet Yoann Bourgeois.

“Imagine a sentence that starts without punctuation and once it starts it cannot stop an imbalanced sentence hurried tumbling fluctuating and parched by a series of chain reactions a sentence like a domino cascade a fugue sentence a rebel sentence emancipating itself seeking to emancipate or simply free itself from the traditional communicating sentence structure a sentence wrapped up and carried away rebellious restive and repetitive varying like a melodic line like a domino cascade where one man suddenly imagines one man yes one man in the place of this sentence a man from the first to last second a fugue through a series of chain reactions through a series of rebounds slipping running accelerating catastrophe man oblique slanted hurried not able to stop a man manipulated a man driven stuck in the machine of a domestication greater than him in this disproportionate world of cogs of forces of pulleys of gears of stairs of doors of traps of turnstiles imagine.”

Yoann Bourgeois is an acrobat, actor, juggler, and dancer. He has codirected the CCN2 in Grenoble with Rachid Ouramdane since 2016 and has accompanied the BNP Paribas foundation in the development of its projects since 2012.

Bourgeois discovered balancing acts while at the Cirque Plume school. He is a graduate of the Centre National des Arts du Cirque, which he attended while also studying at the Centre National de Danse Contemporaine. During this a time he collaborated with Alexandre Del Perrugia and Kitsou Dubois. He later became a permanent artist with the Centre Chorégraphique National de Rillieux-la-Pape and with the Maguy Marin company. In 2010 he launched his own creative projects. With Marie Fonte and other collaborators, he started the Atelier du Joueur. This led to the creation of Cavale, followed by a cycle based on great musical pieces: Les fuguesL’Art de la fugue and Wu-Wei. That same year, the company inaugurated the Centre International de Recherches Circassiennes, which aims to create a genealogy of the acrobatic gesture. A second cycle of creations came in 2014, with Celui qui tombe and Minuit.

Bourgeois has since continued his research around devices that amplify physical phenomena, and he applies this research to his work in opera, film, music videos, concerts, theater, and circus.
