About

The Archaos national circus center was founded in Marseille in 2001 and it supports the creation, development, distribution, and the general practice of the circus arts.

Co-directed by Raquel Rache de Andrade and Guy Carrara, Archaos created and directs the Biennale Internationale des Arts du Cirque Marseille (BIAC) and the Entre-Deux biennale which are held at locations across the Sud Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region in the South of France.

Created in 2015, the BIAC has quickly become a must-attend event for audiences and circus professionals from around the world. The biennale features a program that combines both original creations and touring performances and it is produced in conjunction with 55 cultural organizations across the Sud region.

For its third edition, which was held in 2019, the BIAC welcomed more than 114 000 spectators.

The 4th edition took place in 2021 but there was limited access due to the health crisis. In consultation with our cultural partners, institutions and sponsors, this edition was reduced to 28 shows, 21 of which were premieres, that were only open to  professionals from the live performance sector. As for the rest of the program, in concertation with 55 cultural partners, it was decided to postpone several shows to the Entre2 BIAC 2022 or to other moments of the following season.

Thus, for this 4th edition of the Entre2 BIAC 2022, 44 shows totalling 140 performances will be presented from Istres to Gap and from Marseille to Antibes, passing through 31 other cities, so that artists and audiences can once again come together.

As major international events, BIAC and the Entre2 BIAC contribute to the cultural influence of the region and its attractiveness.
