Presentation

Twenty oversized blocks are deconstructed and rebuilt into an infinite variety of shapes for the performers to play on, move with, and explore. What happens when dance and circus collide? When they converge, rub against each other, blend into one another?

The modern city is a nest teeming with activity. Human life streams through it. Block is about living in the city, with its contradictions and its challenges. Living large, living fast, and sometimes living in the cracks, this extraordinary cast stays on their toes to survive and thrive in the world of blocks.

“This Welsh circus can't be missed.” – La Provence

“NoFit State Circus, Britain's leading large-scale contemporary circus company.” – The Times

Founded in 1986, the English circus company NoFit State brings together individuals who are united by their common passion for the circus and the possibilities of collective creation. The company puts on shows in public spaces, under a traditional tent, and in non-conventional locations, always fostering deep ties with the community in which it is performing. NoFit State makes stories without narrative, creating work that is poignant and poetic. The company uses large-scale imagery, circus, theatre, live music, movement, and innovative design to invent worlds where the boundaries between the real and the imaginary, the possible and the impossible, become blurred.

Motionhouse was founded in 1988 by Kevin Finnan and Louise Richards. The company has become one of the leading dance theater companies in the United Kingdom. Productions are created locally with the objective of touring the work globally.

The group's performances push the limits of movement and integrate circus and acrobatic techniques to make the audience feel and think. The company has developed a reputation for ambitious experimentation and their productions, in which setting, action, and context collide, have become world-renowned for the way they challenge and entertain audiences.
