Presentation

Programmed by the Les Elancées festival

"Two individuals on a quest for light arrive from elsewhere. They've known the flicker of intimate secrets, they've sought the brilliance of the summits. Stupor! Everything becomes focused on the performance space. The audience is there, sitting close and all around them... After Matamore, which was created in partnership with the Petit Théâtre Baraque, the Cirque Trottola (the word for a spinning top in Italian) returns to its founding ideas: a duo of performers that becomes a quartet with the addition of the multi-talented musicians Thomas and Bastien. With an array of instruments, either traditional or creatively altered, installations and other sound devices, they are the climbing partners for this ascension led by Titoune and Bonaventure, the fascinating performers who evoke a spectrum of emotions.

Because the underlying foundation of Trottola, in all its miraculousness and remarkableness, has not changed: perform virtuoso exploits (flying trapeze, acrobatic lifts) and capture indefinable tiny moments, those fleeting instants where an expression or an awed gaze or bent back become the small pointillist details that end up defining the entire landscape of the human condition... In Campana, the bell tolls and time passes, inexorably... And it is time. Time to rediscover these unique artists who explore their performance space in search of means of unstitching the seams of the human soul."

“With Campana, Trottola takes us to a faraway place. It is funny, poetic, magnificent.” La Vie, May 2018.

“In this spatio-temporal bubble, audiences savor a performance whose existential arguments deepen with the passage of time." La Voix du Nord, April 2018.

For more than 15 years, the Cirque Trottola and its artists have been inventing a unique and virtuoso artistic aesthetic where the circus becomes a vehicle for telling the story of the human soul. By contorting reality, they create humorous and acrobatic worlds that are firmly rooted in the present and open to the here-and-now. The Cirque Trottola performs in the ring, under the tent, but with each performance it reshapes the contours.

In 2002, the circus created its eponymous performance Trottola during trip to the French towns of Nexon and Aurillac, a performance that used the old tent of the Convoi Exceptionnel circus. In 2007, they inaugurated a new tent with facing seating for their second show, Volchok (the Russian word for spinning top). Cirque Trottala then toured for four years across France and Europe with their third show, Matamore. April 2018 saw the creation of Campana and the opening of a new tent/seating system for another stage space.
