Otus immerses audiences in human nature, plunges them into an abstract world where two beings, two solitudes, exist. Following a precise choreography, these beings evolve in a world of absurd logic where the rules of time work differently.
Yet their actions clearly convey meaning, they are each trying to find a common space. Their world is revealed in a space filled with wooden objects, stacks of precariously balanced boards, furniture, and a trapeze.
In this hourglass universe, the two artists unconsciously serve as creative gods, blind to consequences and life outside of real time.
Perhaps we are watching this duo searching for meaning in their existence? In a journey of the senses, Otus is a show to watch, hear, and feel.

The Oliveira & Bachtler company was founded by Hugo Oliveira and Sage Bachtler Cushman in 2014. A graduate of the Institut National des Arts du Cirque, Sage perfect her craft under Helene Embling. Hugo is a graduate of the London International School of Performing Arts, where he studied with the pedagogical director Thomas Pratki. Hired to help create NoFit State Circus' award-winning show Bianco, the duo toured together several times before forming Oliveira & Bachtler.
Supported and funded by Incubator, the Wales Millennium Centre's creative development program, they created and presented their first collaboration Portas. The creative director of the Chapter's dance program, Coreo Cymru, in association with Chapter and NoFit State Circus, subsequently selected the company to create a work in two phases. The first phase, Desert Trees, was presented to an international panel at the 2015 Wales Dance Platform. At the presentation, Oliveira & Bachtler received continued support and funding from Coreo Cymru and Arts Council of Wales for the second phase, the development of the full-length production entitled Otus.
