Since its creation in 1986, Archaos has been dedicated to the renewal of the circus arts and it has now become one of the emblematic companies in the world of contemporary circus. After being named a Pôle National Cirque in 2012 and then playing a major role in Marseille-Provence 2013, European Capital of Culture, in 2015 Archaos created the Biennale Internationale des Arts du Cirque Marseille Provence Alpes Côte d’Azur. The Biennale is now considered the largest circus festival in the world.
Archaos lives and breathes the circus in permanence, from the organization of the Biennale to the creation of In-Between Biennale that is held in off-years to the everyday work supporting professional and amateur circus artists and introducing the circus arts to school groups, social service programs, and the general public.
The Tent Village and its program are also managed and directed by Archaos.
