Circus, dance, visual arts, and music. La Chose is an organic show that plays with our bearings and blurs the materials. On stage, five artists explore our relationship to hair: from our intimate moments to how we present ourselves to the world, the constant is what we grow on our heads... From the cozy nest to the shaggy mess, the bodies transform on stage, as if in a dream – dance and acrobatic lifts, climbing rope, and cloud swing, wooly beasts and hairy tutus.
For Nathan Israël and Luna Rousseau, La Chose is the troubled part that exists inside all of us, that which we cannot name. It is a hand-to-hand combat between social norms and our own oddities. It is a trance, an overflowing of emotion, a furry fiesta. La Chose is the fruit of a process that already explored a variety of contexts, from research laboratories to the ephemeral piece Corps & Crues, created at l’Atelier du Plateau for FERIA 2017. With La Chose, the piece’s writers further their research on monsters and otherness and on the strong relationship we have to matter. Here hair represents a multitude of symbols.

The Jardin des Délices company was founded in 2014 by Luna Rousseau (author, stage director) and Nathan Israël (author, performer). Together they have invented a hybrid, multidisciplinary circus that takes a humorous look at the notion of monsters. A notion that often includes anybody that is a bit out of the ordinary…a definition that certainly encompasses circus artists!
