Presentation

La Mondiale Générale decides that maybe it is time to take a bit of time off... A bit bizarre considering how quickly time is passing. So it also asks a question: How much time do we really have left? Is it really time to slow down? Or, on the contrary, should we strive to make up for lost time? Does humanity even have enough time to save itself? To this daunting series of questions, the company responds with a circus performance that plunges itself into the debate.

This human-sized circus embraces questions of balance and situations that absurd, beautiful, and self-destructive. In a moving space where the obstacles are intentionally numerous, five performers navigate the spaces between love and death. The risks have been calculated in a manner that they are definitely unreasonable. There is the swallowing of serpents and the drinking of seas and oceans, all for the enjoyment of the audience. Like the snake that swallows its own tail, in this world where the rules of the game aren't always fair, nobody knows the truth and no answer is correct. Le Gros Sabordage resembles a fable without any drama or catastrophe or cynicism: it's a joke, a farce, a sham!

"A performance that is as funny and off-beat as it is technical and physical.” La Provence

The Mondiale Générale association was created in 2012 by three individuals: technician Timothé Van Der Steen, artist Alexandre Denis, and administrator Pernette Bénard. Alexandre Denis and Timothé Van Der Steen work together to find ways to explore the different physical and emotional relationships linked to balance. Their creations are primarily structured around the circus, but also reach out to other disciplines, such as the visual arts, acrobatic circus, and sound creation.

They created the Braquemard project, made up of three shows: the skit Escalier, the short show Braquemard #1, and the long show Le Braquemard du pendu. Since the autumn of 2015, they have also created performance-installations for galleries and art centers (Magasin de jouets in Arles, Palais de Tokyo in Paris…). The Sabordage! project took shape in 2017, with a larger team, new artistic materials, and ever-present obsessions.
