Presentation

BOUCAN, noun: (i) a deafening noise; (ii) a person renowned for their ability to mess things up; (iii) the second show created by Cirk biZ’arT.

A chaotic stage, characters that seem only half-awake, scattered sequins leave the impression of a party that went all night long... You don't need more than that for the atmosphere of a major celebration to take shape, for memories of the 1990s to burst forth, an era that was synonymous with creation, eccentricity, imagination, and madness. But behind the insouciance, beyond this wild moment played among Marseille accents, Boucan accentuates the absurdity of daily life – and its profound beauty – all while attempting to imagine a different tomorrow.

“There are three of them, but they produce the energy of an entire circus troop. The Cirk biZ’arT, this trio of two young men and one young woman, are three oddball opportunities to double over in laughter." La Montagne, 18 August 2015

"Their profound connection with the audience is obvious!"
Olivia Lefebvre, Vousenvoulez.com, 15 October 2015

Cirk biZ'arT is a Franco-American circus company based in Marseille that is part of the broader arts collective Le Morozoff. Since its creation in 2014, Cirk biZ'arT embraces a vision of circus as an all-terrain medium, a super-seed art form that knows no borders and mixes clowning, object manipulation, dance, acrobatics... But it is also a vision of circus that emanates dramatic power. The creative spark that gave rise to the troupe came at a festival in 2013 where Laurie and Jonah presented Chuck et Charlotte and Rémy performed his solo show Bulle de Rien. The artists felt an immediate connection and discovered a shared love of street performance, and from that point on the three acrobatic clowns began working together.

The very next year, they performed together in Marseille and Aurillac, two companies coming together for the show Cabaret de Cirque Nouveau Mais à l'Ancienne. It was a superb experience and the reviews were fantastic, so the biZ'arT team didn't want to stop there. In 2015, the group decided to invite themselves to the first edition of the Biennale Internationale des Arts du Cirque. They conducted a commando artistic performance to convince Archaos to give them a chance. They were rewarded with a guest spot in the Magic Mirrors space of the Tent Village. Since then, it has been madcap rush of performances and tours for Cirk biZ'arT...
