Presentation

C’est quand qu’on va où !? [When Are We Going Where?] is a story of the circus. An anecdotal fairy tale, vivid and acrobatic, that tells the story of four children who grow up together. People who, by chance, are born into circus families and who tell their stories from the window of a circus caravan that are equal party star-filled and mud-drenched. Four artists evoke their stories, from their mothers' wombs to their very deaths.

The time of the performance encapsulates their lifetimes: the audience sees them born, grow up, get old, then die. On stage there are drums, saxophones, elderly voices to better reflect, a teeterboard to reach higher heights, aerial straps for suspension, wigs and costumes to help believe, a cloud swing to fly more freely... The aerial circus and the musical creation echo back to each other, at times joyous and festive, at times tragic and inescapable. Everything takes place in front of giant fan, a symbol of the tent, the stage design, the costumes, the lighting. "To tell a story without sacrificing the power, fragility, and poetry of the circus", this is the challenge that the performance's creator, Émilie Bonnafous, has set for herself.

Galapiat [galapja], Old French word meaning rascal, good-for-nothing, vagabond

Galapiat Cirque supports, creates, and produces shows and events while also fostering community ties through culture. The circus consists of multiple itineraries and productions and its projects are both deeply rooted in the Côtes d'Armor area of France while also touring across diverse territories. Galapiat Cirque is certified as a SCIC (non-profit cooperative working in the general interest) and it brings together more than 50 associates, artists, technicians, support staff, friends, and institutional and private partners. Émilie Bonnafous, a key part of the Galapiat community, was trained as a clown at the Lido circus school in Toulouse and practiced theatre with the Théâtre 7, directed by Michel Boy in Castelnaudary. As head of the Nez4c company from 2006 to 2011, she developed her writing and directing talents by creating three plays and running workshops. She also studied art therapy during this period. Her meeting with Sébastien Armengol (teeterboard, static trapeze, music, photography) led to her involvement with the Galapiat circus. The circus continues its perpetual search to reinvent ways to go where the circus rarely goes.
