Cheptel (livestock): like a collection of identities, desires, and different points of view that have come together in a group.

Aleïkoum (to all): to signify the opening of the group and its desire to share.

The Cheptel Aleïkoum is an artistic collective originally made up of seventeen students of the CNAC (National Center for the Circus Arts)’s 15th class, later enriched by circus performers from other classes, a composer-musician, a graphic designer-video artist, a costume designer, and an apparatus builder. It was created around the common desire for coming together, for sharing, and for freedom, with respect for everyone’s wish to create their own shows, which is the source of both its complexity and its strength. Versatile, though focused, the Cheptel Aleïkoum’s main artistic leitmotiv is diversity.

After more than ten years of existence and with a dozen members, the collective now focuses its work on the respect for its members’ multiple artistic approaches instead of on an aesthetic postulate. Its creations share core values of trust in the other, in their abilities, their generosity, and their openness.
