Presentation

Histoire du Soldat (The Soldier’s Tale) is a melodrama told through words and music. Seven instrumentalists, directed by a conductor, surround three characters: Joseph, the naive soldier returning from the war; The Princess, whom the King has promised to the man who will cure her illness; and The Devil, whom we don't need to introduce. Between these three characters, a fanfare-inflected drama builds and, in its simplicity, hides a profound reflection. Stravinsky's music accentuates the action, surrounds the bodies, and creates a dreamy surreal state. In this new version, Joseph's soul is a grotesque violin whose strings, now threads, define the limits of the tightrope walker's playing field. An aerial revision of a 20th century masterpiece.

Part of the “Grandes Musiques pour Petites Oreilles, 2ème Édition Quartiers d’Hiver" project.

Since its formation, the Télémaque ensemble, led by Raoul Lay, has been devoted to the creation and production of contemporary works. Regularly present at international venues (Venice Biennale, Ars Musica in Brussels, Enescu in Bucharest, Okinawa Festival…), Télémaque conducts its adventures with dance, circus, and theater artists (Olivier Py, Cirque Plume, Nathalie Pernette…). In addition to creation, Télémaque has made it its mission to awaken curiosity and to make contemporary musical aesthetics accessible to everyone, everywhere.

Télémaque is undertaking a unique awareness-raising transmission effort by directing its attention toward younger audiences, orienting its work toward children, and participating in challenging musical performances. In 2013, the company moved into the PIC, Atelier de Fabrique Artistique, based in the Estaque. The Télémaque structure hosts emerging companies and organizes the key event "Grandes Musiques Pour Petites Oreilles" in partnership with regional cultural institutions (Les Théâtres – Gymnase /GTP/Bernardines, Biennale Internationale des Arts du Cirque, Théâtre Massalia, Cité de la Musique, GMEM…).
