Presentation

Inside their wheel, two men become the two sides of a sphere that spins around an axis. The object handled so gracefully by this duo is called a Cyr wheel, named after its inventor. Mixing lifts, gyratory motions, and acrobatic tricks, it is the very use of the wheel that generates its spinning. It is a way for the acrobats to focus on movement and attract positive energy. A three-body waltz composed by Juan Ignacio Tula and Stefan Kinsman under the watchful eye of Mathurin Bolze, from the Mpta company, Santa Madera leaves an imaginary map on the floor: lines traced by the wheel, prints of hands and feet. A territorial choreography.

This project is supported by Le Théâtre du Bois de l'Aune, le Théâtre de la Passerelle, Scène Nationale de Gap et des Alpes du Sud and Archaos, Pôle National Cirque Méditerrannée.

Born in Buenos Aires, Juan Ignacio Tula started out in an Argentinian alternative music band. At the age of 17, he took up dance (Lindy hop, tango, contemporary dance) and learned to appreciate movement while simultaneously practicing the arts of the circus. While at the Vertigo Circus in Italy in 2010, he began practicing the Cyr wheel; his desire to take the discipline further led him to France, to the CNAC, where he met Stefan Kinsman.

Born in Switzerland, Stefan Kinsman grew up in Costa Rica and started to juggle and play music at the age of 13. In 2010, he joined the circus school Flic in Turin, Italy, where he specialized in the Cyr wheel. He crossed Juan Ignacio Tula's path upon his arrival at the CNAC in 2013. Together, they continued to expand their methodology at the Mpta Company – putting hands, feet, and even heads to work. This work was done within the framework of a partnership dedicated to the creation of their first projects in collaboration with Mathurin Bolze and Séverine Chavrier, Jérôme Fèvre and Gildas Céleste, and Jérémie Cusenier.
