Presentation

The Bestias tribe is made up of men, women, horses, and birds. In this poetic universe, the Bestias tell their story: a strange fable in the form of a ceremony, an escapist ritual, where a series of chain reactions change the course of a world that is supposed to just keep on turning without ever stopping. A wind of freedom blows. A quest for motion and for musicality begins that embraces a beating of wings, a galloping of hooves, and a choreography of movements. It changes everything, the fullest moments become empty ones, the empty moments become the opportunity for new beginnings. At the heart of the Bestias tribe, we end up wondering who is actually leading this dance as everything straddles the border between dreaming and wakefulness, humanity and animalism.

“Run to see these beasts of the stage. A pure marvel.” – Elle

“Between reality and fanstasy, artists and animals are united...in this audacious creation by the Baro d'evel company.” – Libération

The Baro d’evel company's projects are always born out of a desire for the improbable, a fascination with the border between an intimate moment and a public feat. Movements, acrobatics, lifts... The work of the company stems from an engagement with the physical body and a daily training routine. The starting point for a performance is often a strong notion of the possibilities of the stage, a question about the place of the spectator in this space. Rhythm, voice, and sound play a major role in the writing in order to ensure that musicality is at the heart of the action and to create a direct link to the senses.

When it comes to the original productions, it is a matter of shining a light upon the imperfections of the body in movement, its inner torments, its extraordinary fragility. It is also a question of embodying beings who can improvise, who can adapt, who can be inherently simple yet profoundly surprising, all by evoking roles and states of mind rather than mere characters. And then there is the animal presence, the horses that are vital to the working life of the company. This approach pushes the boundaries of questions of animalism and identity; the horse elicits old instincts, a sense of spontaneity, it pushes both the artists and the audience into the "here and now".
