Presentation

Six stones, a corde lisse, a system of hooks, two aerial acrobats, and one musician. The trio concocts a sonic substance based on vocal and mineral ingredients. Ropes intertwine like lifelines. The kaleidoscope of subtle balances can burst into motion. Traction, hair suspension, balancing. Each in turn, the bodies, the stones, the sounds become playmates for each other, moorings. Raw, sandy, rocky vibrations are improvised as the aerial movements unfold. Cairns explores the delicate space where pleasure and pain join hands to achieve flight.

Biography

The Collectif Merkén was founded in Marseille in 2019 and is composed mainly of women from diverse backgrounds. The collective works on the question of the power to act and the capacities of defense and response to different forms of oppression. Its creations bring to light stories where the intimate and the political become entangled, drawing a plurality of interpretations that participate in the deconstruction of the dominant narratives.
